EPA Delegation of a Chief Freedom of Information Act Officer

On December 14, 2005, President Bush signed Executive Order 13392, "Improving Agency Disclosure of Information" (PDF). (7 pg, 99 K, About PDF)

The Executive Order (E.O.) mandates that each agency designate a Chief FOIA Officer within 30 days of the date of the Order to ensure the efficient and appropriate compliance with FOIA and the requirements of the E.O. ( An EO is a declaration issued by the President of the United States that has the force of law. EOs are usually based on existing statutory authority and require no action by Congress to become effective. EOs are published in the Federal Register as they are issued, and then in Statutes at Large and Title 3 of the Code of Federal Regulations each year.)

On January 5, 2006, EPA Administrator, Stephen L. Johnson, appointed the Assistant Administrator for Environmental Information as EPA's new Chief FOIA Officer (PDF). (1 pg, 69 K, About PDF)

This designation does not change where FOIA requests should be submitted to the Agency. Requests should be sent to the office that would be in possession of the records. Please see the FOIA Where You Live page.
