Gregory G. Garre is the 44^th Solicitor General of the United States. He was nominated by President George W. Bush on June 19, 2008, confirmed by the United States Senate on October 2, 2008, and took the oath of office on October 6, 2008.

Mr. Garre served as Principal Deputy Solicitor General from October 2005 until October 2008. He was formerly a partner at the law firm of Hogan & Hartson LLP in Washington, D.C., where he headed the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate practice section. He served as an Assistant to the Solicitor General from 2000-2004. Mr. Garre has argued 24 cases before the United States Supreme Court and numerous additional matters before the federal courts of appeals.

Mr. Garre is a native of Barrington, Illinois, and a graduate of the Barrington public schools. He received his J.D. from George Washington University Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the law review, and his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College. Following his graduation from law school, Mr. Garre served as a law clerk to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, and to Judge Anthony J. Scirica of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Mr. Garre has served as an Adjunct Professor at the George Washington University Law School.
