Gayle D. Weaver is an Associate Professor in the Division of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She received her MA degree and PhD in Psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Her primary area of research is the psychological well-being of women who live with potentially taxing and life-threatening chronic diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, breast cancer, and alcohol/drug addictions. Currently, she is the Co-Principal Investigator of UTMB's second Minority Research Infrastructure Program grant, "Health Services Use in Underserved Populations", funded by the AHRQ. In the initial grant, she examined the health services use African American women diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus, with a focus on the mental health services use. She is also a co-investigator on the Center for Population Health Disparities (funded by NCI) examining cancer prevention and detection efforts in 'resource-rich and resource-poor' counties.
