MODELING PROGRAM

OPPORTUNITIES

FISC - Numerical Modeling Program

FISC and the USGS use numerical models to solve ground water, surface water, and geochemistry problems. Additionally, FISC and the USGS use numerous general use software applications, and statistical and graphical packages.

Reports that detail FISC and USGS numerical modeling efforts are arranged in the following groups:

FISC and the USGS offer numerous opportunities for students at various educational levels: Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program, National Research Council Postdoctoral Positions, Science Curriculum for K-12 (and beyond!), Student Employment. Full and part-time employment and volunteer opportunities are also available with FISC and the USGS.

Techniques and Methods, Book 6, Chapter A24. The surficial aquifer system is the major source of freshwater for public water supply in Palm Beach County, Florida, yet many previous studies of the hydrogeology of this aquifer system have focused only on the eastern one-half to one-third of the county in the more densely populated coastal area (Land and others, 1973; Swayze and others, 1980; Swayze and Miller, 1984; Shine and others, 1989). ...

cover image: Open-File Report 2007-1288

Open-File Report 2007-1288. The U.S. Geological Survey conducts a wide range of research in and around the Biscayne National Park region of southern Florida. This research encompasses the biologic, ecologic, meteorologic, geologic, and hydrologic components of the system, including water-quality analyses, ground-water modeling, hydrogeologic-data collection, ecologic-habitat evaluations, wetlands characterizations, biogeochemistry of ecosystems, and paleo-ecologic analyses. ...

SEAWAT Version 4: A Computer Program for Simulation of Multi-Species Solute and Heat Transport

cover image: Techniques and Methods Book 6, Chapter A22

Techniques and Methods Book 6, Chapter A22. The SEAWAT program is a coupled version of MODFLOW and MT3DMS designed to simulate three-dimensional, variable-density, saturated ground-water flow. Flexible equations were added to the program to allow fluid density to be calculated as a function of one or more MT3DMS species. Fluid density may also be calculated as a function of fluid pressure. ...
