SIR-C Educational Package

The SIR-C Educational Package is a collection of lesson plans, presentation materials, and a teacher's guide about the Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C/X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SIR-C/X-SAR, or just SIR-C for short). The package has been designed for use by teachers and students of earth science and geography in middle schools, high schools, and universities. The package is available for download only. Some of this information may be outdated because the data came from a CD-ROM originally produced in April, 1997.

SIR-C was a joint U.S.-German-Italian project that built a highly sophisticated imaging radar to capture images of the Earth that are useful to scientists in a wide range of disciplines. The instrument was flown on two flights of Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1994, STS-59 on April 9-20 and STS-68 on September 30-October 11. (http://southport.jpl.nasa.gov/)

This Educational Download was produced by NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and contains SIR-C radar images of many places around the world. The package is ISO-9660 compliant, but works best on Windows compatible computers.
