Summaries of Independent Scientist (K) Awards

Jenkins, Pamela

Institution: Dartmouth College
Grant Title: Improving Outcomes in Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrom
Grant Number: K02 HS00010
Duration: 5 years (2000-2005)
Total Award: $657,200

Project Description: This research had three main aims:

  1. To identify pre-operative and operative characteristics predictive of mortality in children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS).
  2. To conduct functional testing of these pediatric patients.
  3. To conduct yearly survey of families with HLHS children.

Career Goals: Dr. Jenkins seeks to improve the health outcomes of infants and children with congenital heart disease. Her K research will create a solid basis for decisionmaking in individual patients with HLHS, allow for case-mix adjustment for centers to evaluate their outcomes, and initiate the collaboration between pediatric cardiac care teams necessary to improve outcomes for infants with HLHS.

Progress to Date: Dr. Jenkins is nearing the end of her grant and thus has completed all of her data collection and analysis.
