Background
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has launched a program to help front-line nursing home staff reduce the occurrence of in-house pressure ulcers, providing residents with more efficient, effective, and patient-centered care. Pressure ulcers can pose particularly overwhelming challenges for long-term care professionals. The prevalence of pressure ulcers in individual facilities can range from 2.5 percent to 24 percent, depending on the facility. The On-Time Quality Improvement for Long-Term Care program is an innovative program designed to improve day-to-day practice in nursing homes, improve and redesign workflow, enrich work culture, and reduce pressure ulcers.
