A Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number is a unique nine-character identification number provided by the commercial company Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). An applicant organization has to acquire a DUNS number before applying through Grants.gov.

to register with the Central Contract Registration (CCR) before applying through
Grants.gov.
