  • Provide "highlights" of our project work through the Office of Communications
  • Attend selected, high-profile, minerals related meetings and conventions to promote our products and project work in the Western Region
  • Create materials that describe our work to be used in displays at conventions, for fact-sheets, and for the Website
  • Communicate with Minerals outreach coordinators from Eastern, Central, and Alaska to ensure consistancy and limit duplication of efforts

PROJECT OBJECTIVES AND STRATEGY: The objective of this project is to facilitate efficient and cost-effective information sharing and exchange between internal and external users of USGS minerals expertise and to inform and educate customers about the significance and limitations of mineral-resource information. We will facilitate effective information sharing and exchange by bringing together the work and talents of USGS scientists with the needs and mandates of traditional and non-traditional customers. We will help build and nurture relationships with current and potential customers on local, district, state, regional, and national levels to assure products are tailored to match their unique information needs and to provide the WR-MRT with the perspective necessary for long-range planning. We will provide region-wide oversight of customer interactions to assure that the Team message is consistent. Methods of accomplishing these objectives include, but are not limited to, having a booth or sponsoring technical sessions, symposia, or field trips at professional meetings; creating and distributing fact sheets and posters of Team research results or works-in-progress to other USGS offices, to other federal agency gatherings, to the general public at symposia, open houses, and public lectures, and when appropriate, to members of Congress and their staff; and maintaining web sites for easier access to our products.Participate in workshops, forums, and meetings to highlight WR-MRT showcase projects and interpret and explain the significance and impact of WR-MRT work in universally understandable terms to a wide variety of audiences. Provide feedback to WR-MRT projects to assure client needs are met. Understand issues and needs of clients to facilitate long-range planning by WR-MRT. Begin to identify non-traditional sources of reimbursable funding. Coordinate with Eastern and Central Region Outreach Coordinators regarding marketing plans, web page design, and outreach efforts. Participate in and support pre-college earth science education activities. Maintain Team Web pages, both external and internal. Produce fact sheets and exhibit materials to market program. Produce universally understandable accounts of geologic phenomena for distribution to the general public through visitor information centers.
