Slide Presentation of the 2007 Annual Meeting of AHRQ

Variation in Frequency of Updating Medication List with Patient

Text Description is below the image.

Variation in frequency of updating medication list with patients graphed for 6 unidentified physician software vendors. Results are approximate values.

Users were asked about frequency of updating medication list with patients. Overall, about 38% always updated, 17% most/all of the time, 20% sometimes, and 25% never. The extent to which physicians updated medication list with patients varied by software product used. For Vendor B, almost 90% always updated medication list with patient versus only 15% for Vendor E.

Notes:

The extent to which physicians use medication history at baseline varied by software product used. Vendor C 61% ALWAYS viewed med history, vs. only 15% of Vendor D. This is likely a function of ease of access—we will be trying to link characteristics of the software to these data to understand how technology can be integrated to help docs use it.
Vendor E had only one respondent. So—be leery.
