Jefferson County, Colorado - Physical and Cultural Geography Project Description

Description:

This project invites students to explore a county in Colorado at the census tract, block group, and high school attendance area levels of geography. Students will characterize neighborhoods, compare their assessments with field investigations, and analyze demographic variables.

Geographic Analysis:

1) List the high school attendance areas that have the highest median housing value.

2) Describe in detail the geographic distribution for the high school attendance areas listed above.

3, 4, 5, and 6) Same as above but for the lowest and three medium categories.

Social Area Analysis questions:

1. Once you have defined the boundaries for each area and identified 1)e class (low, medium, high) write at least a half page response describing in detail what the neighborhood is like. make sure that you refer to specific data!

2. Using the concentric zone, sector, and multi-nuclei urban models as 2)guide, write a one page analysis of Jefferson County from a socio-economic point of view. Make sure you refer to data and do not forget to mention geographic concepts!

3) What 3 variables have the most influence on ACT and SAT college entrance scores.

4) Why do these variables have the influence they do?
