Q: Can I get a grant from the Toxics Program?

A: The U.S. Geological Survey Toxic Substances Hydrology (Toxics) Program is a federally funded program that conducts research on the behavior of toxic substances in the Nation's hydrologic environments. Federal funds are used to conduct applied and fundamental research on the fate of toxic substances and to provide the infrastructure at field laboratories where the research is conducted. These field laboratories provide opportunities for collaboration with non-USGS scientists. Scientists from universities, other federal agencies, and the private sector have and are working as part of Toxics Program studies. The Toxics Program is not a program that distributes grant money to universities and other institutions to support this research. The USGS State Water Resources Research Institute (WRRI) Program provides for competitive grants to be awarded under the Water Resources Research Act. A number of grants have been awarded that augment research at Toxics Program field sites. The WRRI Program is implemented in conjunction with the National Institutes for Water Resources (NIWR).
