High levels of performance will be demanded in the future workforce. Today's organizations
and agencies must continuously develop talent through a variety of learning methods
and opportunities. Training is undergoing a transformation, in industry, in the
government and in the military. Employers may be unable to afford the costs and
employees may be unable to afford the time to attend traditional, off-site training
programs. Online instruction is one remedy. On-demand instruction and performance
aiding are two strategies for workplace learning that can meet the demands of a
high-performance workplace.
Performance Aiding (also called Performance Support) is one of the approaches being
used to support the transformation. Improved human user-centered design of equipment
and even the replacement the human role through automation as well as new technology
for job performance such as personal digital assistants, tablet PCs, wearable PCs,
wireless networks, and so on, are examples of the transformational tools that are
under investigation to bridge gap between training, skills and performance.
ADL is investigating the application of these technologies in
a manner that is consistent with the
SCORM interoperability model. The ADL Job Performance Technology Center (JPTC) was established
within the ADL Initiative to pursue this integration. The ADL
JPTC is located at the ADL Co-Laboratory Hub.
