Details: An ambiguity has been discovered in the SCORM 2004 3rd Edition description and use of global shared objective information. In particular, SCORM 2004 3rd Edition changed the behavior of ‘Read Maps’. The new behavior (described in the SCORM 2004 3rd Edition Impacts Summary document, Section 1.5.4) states that global data will “always” used for evaluations “…when it is defined”.
Updates to the SCORM 2004 3rd Edition Sequencing and Navigation (S&N) Book (Section 3.10.3 – Table 3.10.3a and Section 4.2.1.7 – bullet 4) currently contradict one another. In one case, global shared objective data is literally ‘always’ used; in the other case, global shared objective data is only used when local status is undefined. The problem is further clouded by the language used in section 3.2.5 – Use Current Attempt Objective Information, making unambiguous evaluation of current attempt primary objective status difficult.
The SCORM S&N Book will be updated to consistently reflect the correct behavior for applying ‘read’ maps to shared global objective tracking data.
