The Locator is a tool for sorting online Coastal & Marine Geology Program resources. To use the Locator:
The Content Types offer a way to help you locate the sort of content in which you are interested. For instance, if you are interested in locating pictures, choose "Photographs" from the "Content Type" menu in the Locator. Below are descriptions of each of the Content Types:
Research Project Research Projects are the core of our science program. Each Research Project is a focussed effort by one or more scientists and support personnel, designed to address a particular scientific issue or problem. |
Educational Materials Educational Materials include such offerings as virtual photographic tours of locations of scientific study and background information on subjects of our research. We hope you find them helpful! |
Photographs Online Photographs are often arranged in photo galleries or collections. |
Movies Movies include all types of animated content--digital video as well as graphical animations. |
Maps Online Maps may include ready-to-print maps in PDF format or may be map graphics on webpages. |
Publication Publications include USGS publication formats, such as Open File Reports and Digital Data Series, as well as conference poster presentations and abstracts, and also publications in peer-reviewed journals. |
Data Set Online Data Sets may include anything from digital imagery to tabular data to graphs and charts. If a data set is mentioned somewhere on one of our sites but is unavailable online, we can help put you in touch with the data that you are looking for. |
General Information Lastly, you will occasionally see pages marked as "General Information." Such pages usually contain background information not related to any other Content Type, and are often pages of links to additional information. Since "General Information" is just a catch-all category, it is not available as a choice in the "Content Type" menu of the Locator. |
