Research Interests:

Since 1983, I have conducted research on non-game wildlife for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Biological Service, in Fort Collins, Colorado and with the USGS in Missoula, Montana. My past research includes habitat relationships of vertebrates in Douglas-fir forests in western Oregon and Washington, effects of acid precipitation and ultraviolet radiation on amphibians, effects of translocation on desert tortoises, and effects of grazing on desert tortoises. Current research projects include status and trends of amphibian populations, responses of amphibians to wildfire, effects of climate change on mountain amphibians, and methods to estimate abundance of desert tortoises. As a member of the staff of the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute, I am interested in the role of wildlife in wilderness ecosystems and the effects of climate change on these resources.
