Forestry Information

Wood products such as fuelwood, fence posts, transplants, and Christmas trees are available for non-commercial sale in designated areas. Non-commercial sales of wood products are for personal use only and the products cannot be resold.

Commercial wood products are available on a case-by-case basis in designated areas only. For information about commercial permits, contact Dolores Public Lands Center Office (970) 882-7296, Columbine Field Office, Bayfield (970) 884-2510, or Pagosa Springs Field Office (970) 264-2268.

Non-commercial permits can be purchased at BLM's San Juan Public Lands Center or any San Juan National Forest office. Generally, a minimum purchase of $20.00 is required for all products other than fuel wood or Christmas trees.

In addition, fuel wood permits and Christmas tree permits can be obtained at a number of private vendors located in various communities in southwest Colorado.

Pinon nuts are a popular food item that can be harvested on public lands. Found on the Colorado pinon pine (Pinus edulis), the roasted nuts make a tasty snack or can be used in a variety of recipes. No permit is required if an individual is collecting less than 75 pounds and the nuts are for personal use only.

The following forest products are available in the San Juan Public Lands Center (prices and availability subject to change). The minimum price is $10.00 per permit.
