Oil Shale

The Core Research Center collection includes oil shale cores from the Green River formation in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. For the past ten years some of these cores have been unavailable because they are stored in the Anvil Points Mine near Rifle, Colorado. We are working on a plan to bring them back to the CRC so they will be available for study. The condition of the mine road creates additional challenges for removing the pallets of core from the mine. Oil Shale cores are listed as GREENRIVER in the "Formname" column. Cores stored at the mine have asterisks on both sides of the Library Number column.
