Rhode
Island celebrates Earth Day 2003 at the Roger Williams Park Zoo,
Providence, Rhode Island |
|
USGS Rhode Island Office staff members Lance
Ramsbey, Kelly Stroker, Dennis Ventetuolo, and Emily Wild
participated in the 2003 Earth Day celebration at the zoo. Hundreds
of general interest publications describing USGS maps, hydrologic
data collection and analysis, geology, biological resources, and
product information were disseminated to the public. The staff
members gave two educational demonstrations. The first was an
example of how to read topographic maps and the information maps
provide using a 3-dimensional relief model. In the second
demonstration, staff members described the surface-water model. The
model illustrates the non-point pollution sources to surface water
as a result of runoff from the various land use categories. |
