A Century of Service--100 Years of Continuous Stream-Gaging Activities in Massachusetts Other Links
Of more than 7,000 stations operating nationwide, only 70 have collected data continuously for 100 years or more.
The dedication ceremony for this event was held in conjunction with the two-day science forum and open house held at the Conte Anadromous Fish Laboratory in Turners Falls, Massachusetts.

Rhode Island Celebrates National Water Week:

More than 400 people attended from throughout Massachusetts.
Holding the event in conjunction with an open house and science forum, provided an opportunity to showcase USGS integrated science to the public, to other USGS employees, and to USGS cooperators.

Water Resources Research Institute Program

Each attendee to the event was given a package containing two fact sheets, a bookmark, and a postcard. Selected State and local cooperators and USGS employees were presented USGS benchmark plaques to commemorate the event. Wayne Sonntag presents USGS benchmark to Bill Pula

Other Education Resources:

The Water Cycle
Plaques were presented to our State cooperator responsible for funding the station (Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation), the town of Montague City for hosting the station for 100 years, Congressman John Olver for supporting USGS activities, and to USGS employees for 100 years of dedicated efforts. Wayne Sonntag presents USGS benchmark to Patt Allen
Two fact sheets that expand upon this theme were written. One of them (A Century of Service-100 Years of Continuous Streamflow-Data Collection on the Connecticut River, Montague City, Massachusetts) discusses only the history of the stream-gaging station at Montague City, Massachusetts. The other (One Hundred Years of Streamflow Measurements in Massachusetts and Rhode Island) discusses the history of the entire stream-gaging network in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
