How do I find fault or hazard maps for California

A: For some applications, the list below will give sources for some fault or hazard maps. If you are interested in a fault map superimposed on local streets, the "Fault Zone Hazard Maps" are what you want. The last item is a large-format map.

Seismic Hazard Zone Maps (California)

For California Department of Conservation, Division of Mines and Geology "Seismic Hazard Zone Maps" go to http://www.consrv.ca.gov/dmg/shezp/maps.htm These maps show areas subject to earthquake-induced landslides and liquefaction. They are available for selected quadrangles.

Earthquake Fault Hazard Zone Maps (California)

These maps are mandated by the Alquist-Priolo Act. They show the location of known active faults on a city and county basis. They are used to regulate new construction and to make the public aware of existing fault-movement hazard. Locally these maps should be available for inspection at the offices of the county recorder, county assessor, and county planning commission. Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Map for California

Fault Location and Activity for Probabilistic Map (California)
