Japan -- Visit by Senior Vice Foreign Minister Motegi

Question:   Can you provide information about Senior Vice Foreign Minister Motegi's meeting today with Assistant Secretary Kelly?

Answer:   Senior Vice Minister Toshimitsu Motegi met on August 6 with Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs James A. Kelly. They discussed a number of issues of current mutual interest, including North Korea. Assistant Secretary Kelly also congratulated Vice Minister Motegi on the signing of the U.S.-Japan Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on August 5.

Vice Minister Motegi will meet with Deputy Secretary Armitage tomorrow morning, August 7, to consult further on major issues in U.S.-Japan relations and other matters of mutual concern, including North Korea.
