Abstract: The Coal MIS system contains data about Mines under the
jurisdiction of Coal. It also contains data relative to the inspection and
investigation activities of Coal. The system also includes health sampling
conducted at those mines, and violations issued to the mines under the
jurisdiction of Coal.
Purpose: The data in the Coal MIS system
provides information useful in determining the effectiveness and state of
ongoing activities of the Coal Program. Data is used to assist in programs
related to mine safety and accident prevention.
Agency Program:
MSHA was charged with the responsibility of protecting the nation’s
miners under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977, Public Law 91-173
as amended by Public Law 95-164.
