“The prairie, in all its expressions, is a massive, subtle place, with a long history of contradiction and misunderstanding. But it is worth the effort at comprehension. It is, ater all, at the center of our national identity.” -- Wayne Fields, Lost Horizon (1988)
Welcome to the fourth annual North Dakota Prairie Day. It is our sincere hope that you and your family will enjoy your time on some of North Dakota's remaining prairie grasslands. We hope that you will, as we do, come away with not only an appreciation for the beauty of the wildflowers, birds, and other creatures that live here but also an understanding of the importance of preserving prairie for both wildlife and people. Prairie is part of American history and our North Dakota heritage. We come here today to share ideas, learn about prairie, and celebrate the strength, fortitude and the uniqueness of prairie. Thank you for being part of this special event. -- The Prairie Day Committee
