Abstract: The Supplemental Guide to Classification Standards (SGCS) issuances contain interpretative technical guidance on Office of Personnel Management (OPM) position classification and job grading standards for assuring uniform and consistent application in the Department of Labor (DOL). The SGCS issuance system provides for an easy cross reference from an OPM position classification standard to a DOL supplemental guide. The SGCS issuance system includes the following types of guidance: Supplemental Occupational Guidance are Human Resources Center (HRC) approved guides which interpret specific OPM classification standards and guidelines. Significant Classification Decisions are selected classification decisions and advisory opinions from OPM and HRC.Standard Position Descriptions and position evaluation reports approved by HRC. General Classification Guidelines are classification guidance of a general nature or which relate across occupational series.

Purpose: The SGCS issuance system provides interpretative technical guidance on Office of Personnel Management (OPM) position classification and job grading standards. The guidance is for DOL servicing personnel offices to assure uniform and consistent application of standards within the Department of Labor (DOL).

Agency Program: The Human Resources Center's mission is to provide leadership, guidance, and technical expertise in all areas related to management of the Department's human resources, including position classification.
