Abstract: Accident Investigation data detail the findings of MSHA
investigators into fatal and nonfatal mining-related accidents. Sources include
Coal and Metal/NonMetal data. The system is an Access database.
Purpose: This data in the Accident Investigations database augments
the MSHA Fatal Accident Reports and the information submitted by the mine
operator on their report of accident, 7000-1 form. Used for analysis of
accidents and for accident reduction programs. Agency Program:
MSHA was charged with the responsibility of protecting the nations miners
under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977, Public Law 91-173 as
amended by Public Law 95-164.
