Welcome to the Charleston Ecological Services Web Page.  Our work area covers all of South Carolina.  Our mission is working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.  South Carolina is also home to one recovery office for Red-cockaded woodpeckers, one Law Enforcement office, eight National Wildlife Refuges, and two National Fish Hatcheries.

 




Bald Eagle Soars Off Endangered Species List!

It’s official!

After nearly disappearing from most of the U.S., the bald eagle is now flourishing and no longer needs the protection of the Endangered Species Act. The nation’s symbol has recovered from an all-time low of 417 nesting pairs in 1963 to an estimated high of 9,789 breeding pairs today, and will be removed from the list of threatened and endangered species. more...
