Revised: Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage Presents Eleanor Roosevelt Award

On Thursday, December 13, at 1:00 p.m., Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, on behalf of President George W. Bush, will present the Eleanor Roosevelt Awards to three individuals for their work in promoting human rights. The award was named after Mrs. Roosevelt in recognition of her leadership in drafting the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and her role in the establishment of the UN Commission on Human Rights. Award nominees are Rep. Frank Wolf, John Kamm of the Dui Hua (Dialogue) Foundation, and Barbara Elliott, president and founder of the Center for Renewal. The ceremony will take place in the State Department’s Treaty Room. Deputy Secretary Armitage's remarks and those of the awardees will be open for press coverage. Questions will not be taken.

Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of either (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a photo ID issued by the employing media organization, or (3) a letter on official letterhead from their news organization verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo ID (driver's license or passport).
