| Notice to the Press (Revised) Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC December 12, 2001 Revised: Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage Presents Eleanor Roosevelt AwardOn Thursday, December 13, at 1:00 p.m., Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, on behalf of President George W. Bush, will present the Eleanor Roosevelt Awards to three individuals for their work in promoting human rights. The award was named after Mrs. Roosevelt in recognition of her leadership in drafting the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and her role in the establishment of the UN Commission on Human Rights. Award nominees are Rep. Frank Wolf, John Kamm of the Dui Hua (Dialogue) Foundation, and Barbara Elliott, president and founder of the Center for Renewal. The ceremony will take place in the State Department’s Treaty Room. Deputy Secretary Armitage's remarks and those of the awardees will be open for press coverage. Questions will not be taken.
