Calling the Free Tutoring a "Win-Win Situation," Rochester Schools are Helping Parents Take Advantage of the Options Offered by No Child Left Behind
According to a recent article in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, "the Rochester School District's 29th annual parent conference will focus on the [No Child Left Behind] act's benefits to parents and their children. ??? At the free conference, parents will learn how to take advantage of the programs. They will also have the opportunity to educate themselves on learning styles and parent involvement."
Terry Hofer, the director of the district's grant and program accountability department is quoted saying: "Our challenge as a school district is to break [the law] down and explain it to parents."
The Democrat and Chronicle goes on to report that: "Hofer has been working to educate parents and teachers about the act since the beginning of the year. Recently, Hofer helped put into place federally required supplemental tutoring services at eight district schools. Students who receive free and reduced lunches at those low-performing schools are eligible to receive the services free of charge."
Mary Watts, who coordinates the tutoring program, says: "It's a win-win situation."
