Kingston ACTIVITY REPORT OWICEOFTRUSTRECORDS February 1 -28,2007 PROGRAMNIATIC:: e Labat-Anderson (Labat Indexing Project) Labat reponed that indexing of 824 boxes of inactive Indian records was completed in February 2007. The total number of boxes completed through February 2007 is approximately153,550. e Movement of Records The Bureau of Indian Mairs (BIA) and OEce of the Special Trustee (OST) moved 1,17 1 boxes of inactive records from various field Iocations to Lenexa, Kansas, for indexing and subsequent storage ax the American Indian Records Repository (AZRR)during this reporting period. e Site Assessments Statement During the month of February, the Office of Trusr Review and Audit issued final records assessment reports for the Western Nevada Agency and Choctaw Agency BIA ofices and the Ofice of the Special Trustee Budget, Finance and Administration, Albuquerque office. e Records Training OTR provided records management training for 153BIA, OST and Tribal records contacts. OTR provided training on vital records for 39 BIA and OST employees. e Equipment 265 pieces of fireproof filing equipment were delivered to BIA, OSTand Tribal offices in February 2007. e Boxes Requiring Preservation andlor Remediation In February, the OTR contractor completed work on the six boxes which required conservation. As previously reponed, only two boxes out of the six contain trust records. The conservator separated pages, flattened documents, cleaned documents, repaired documents, and set up parallel files as necessary (parallel files are composed of copies of the original documents which will be used for research, when necessary, in order PO safeguard the original documents). The large maps were cleaned, repaired and flattened (flattened when possible). Although previously OTR reponed that the maps would be copied, OTRdoes not anticipate copying these maps unless there is a need to do so. e Litigation Support and Research Requests OTRcontinued to provide significant support to the Office of the Solicitor, Ofice of Historical Tmst Accounting and its contractors, and the Deparunent of Justice and its contractors. AlRR staffprovided responses to 181research requests fiom BIA, OSTand other requesters. ADMINISaTRGTWE: General administrative activities continued. GENERAL OBSERVATIONS:None.
