Arrest of Murder Suspect, Jamie Dontae Ringgold

The United States Marshals Service has arrested an Elkton, Maryland man wanted for a murder that occurred in February 2007. Jamie Dontae Ringgold, 29, previously of 5 Maple Court, Elkton, Maryland was wanted by Delaware State Police in the shooting death of 29-year-old Kevin A. Fields, of Bear.

The homicide happened in the parking lot of The Old Pike Shops on 788 Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, Delaware at approximately 2 pm on February 26, 2007. Fields was shot in the chest by Ringgold after a confrontation occurred in the parking lot. The fight escalated into Ringgold shooting the victim to death.

Delaware State Police Homicide detectives obtained warrants for murder in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and conspiracy in the first degree.
The United States Marshals First State Fugitive Task Force was assisting the State Police in trying to locate Ringgold. Investigators in Delaware received information the defendant may be in the Fort Lauderdale area of Florida. This information was relayed to deputy marshals in Florida. Ringgold’s 10 months of freedom came to an end at approximately 1 pm on today’s date. He was apprehended at the Ventura Inn located at 720 S. Federal Highway, Dania, Florida. Ringgold was inside an efficiency room and was apprehended without incident.

Ringgold is being held at the Broward County Jail pending extradition to Delaware.

The United States Marshals Service First State Fugitive Task Force is comprised of members of the Marshals Service, Delaware State Police, Delaware State Probation and Parole, New Castle County and Wilmington Police Departments. The state and local officers were sworn in as special deputy U.S. Marshals in order to provide them with broader jurisdictional authority. This is a valuable tool for law enforcement in Delaware because of the ability of a fugitive to flee the state in a short period of time.
