SUSPECT ARRESTED ON CHARGES OF RAPING STEP-DAUGHTERS 40 YEARS AGO

Dario Tomasi, 65, was arrested Thursday night in Las Vegas, Nevada by the U.S. Marshals led Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST) fugitive task force.

Tomasi was wanted on rape and indecent assault charges in Canada after being accused of sexually molesting his minor step-daughters between the years 1966 and 1974. The Canadian arrest warrant based upon the charges was issued on November 23, 2005. The extradition warrant from the United States District Court in Nevada was issued on February 20, 2007.

Investigators developed information that Tomasi was living illegally in Las Vegas and was working in the air conditioning repair business. On Thursday night, U.S. Marshals and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Detectives assigned to Nevada FIST located and arrested Tomasi outside his home near the intersection of Sahara and Decatur. Tomasi was placed into U.S. Marshals custody pending court proceedings to extradite him back to Canada.

Tomasi is the 4th sex offender arrested by Nevada FIST during the last 48 hours. Deputy Marshals also arrested Oscar Rene Castellanos, 38, who was on the L.A.P.D. most wanted list for raping an eight-year-old at a party in Los Angeles.

The removal of fugitives from the streets of Nevada is instrumental in reducing violent crime in our communities.

The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) is the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency. Annually, U.S. Marshals arrest more than 50 percent of all federal fugitives and serve more federal warrants than all other federal agencies combined.
