U.S. Labor Department’s OSHA, Georgia Tech and CDI Construction to Sign Safety Partnership at New Mall Site, in Augusta, Ga.
Ceremony Set for Dec. 13 at Job Site

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has formed a partnership with CDI Construction and Georgia Tech’s Onsite Consultative Service to ensure that worker safety and health is a high priority during the construction of the Village at Riverwalk Open Air Lifestyle Center Mall in Augusta, Ga. The signing ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 13, at the mall construction site.

"The primary goal of this agreement is to eliminate fatalities and reduce injuries and illnesses during this major construction project," said G.T. Breezley, OSHA’s Atlanta-East area director.

When completed, the mall will have 11 buildings, including two large retail anchor stores built on 127 acres. Building construction started in October. Opening is scheduled for March 2008.

The partnership will focus on increasing the number of construction industry employers who have and who maintain effective safety and health management systems, incident-prevention programs, and safety and health training for English- and non-English speaking employees.

OSHA’s Strategic Partnership Program is part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and employees. Almost one million employees and more than 33,000 employers across the United States have participated with OSHA in more than 420 Strategic Partnerships since the program began in 1998.

OSHA’s Atlanta-East area office is located at LaVista Perimeter Office Park, Building 7, Suite 110, Tucker, Ga.; phone: (770) 493-6644.
