Parents Learn About Their Choice Options At WWW.ED.GOV

The No Child Left Behind Act provides new education options for many families. For example, NCLB allows parents to choose other public or charter schools if their child attends a school that is designated as "needing improvement" or is unsafe. It even provides low-income students in underperforming schools the opportunity to take advantage of free tutoring and extra help with homework. The law also supports the growth of charter schools and requires school districts to provide parents with school report cards so that they can make informed educational choices for their child.

In and effort to further help parents understand their options under No Child Left Behind, the U.S. Department of Education has revamped the "Choices for Parents" webpage on its website, www.ed.gov.

Through this webpage parents can find a wide range of information related to school choice including:
  • Descriptions of school choices;
  • Tools that help parents and schools make choice work; and
  • Department grant programs and services that support school choice.

Visit the "Choices for Parents" webpage today at http://www.ed.gov/nclb/choice/index.html.
