The following Ohio school "report card" stories appeared today in the Cincinnati Enquirer and the Cleveland Plain Dealer, respectively:
Schools Improve Markedly; Local Districts Fare Well on State Report Cards
"Cincinnati Public Schools, Mount Healthy and Middletown all climbed out of ‘academic watch’ and into ‘continuous improvement’ during the last school year.
"That means every district in the four counties of Greater Cincinnati is now in one of the top three performance categories: ‘excellent,’ ‘effective’ or ‘continuous improvement.’
"Overall, nearly 96 percent of Ohio districts earned one of the top three designations, compared with 94 percent last year.
"Eight Greater Cincinnati school districts improved their academic performance enough to gain a category on the state's 2004-05 Local Report Cards, released Tuesday….
"Cincinnati Public [Schools] received its first ‘continuous improvement’ rating since the state began giving districts ratings in the 1998-99 school year.
"‘This achievement reflects a trend of overall progress in test scores and much hard work on the part of our teachers, students, administrators, support staff, parents and community partners,’ said Superintendent Rosa Blackwell."
