Senior Advisors on Iraqi Refugee Issues from State and DHS to Brief Press on New Developments in Assistance and Admissions

Ambassador James Foley, Senior Coordinator on Iraqi Refugee Issues, and Ms. Lori Scialabba, Senior Advisor on Iraqi Refugee Issues at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), will brief the press on their recent trip to the region and its results. The briefing will take place on Thursday, November 29 at 10:15 a.m. in the State Department Press Briefing Room. This briefing is ON-THE-RECORD but no cameras are permitted.

The two speakers returned this month from a trip to Iraq, Jordan and Syria. Ambassador Foley also visited Geneva to meet with partners at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. At the briefing they will address the issuance of visas for DHS adjudicators, the status of U.S. donations to United Nations’ appeals for Iraqi refugees, and the mechanics of the U.S. resettlement process.

Media representatives who plan to attend this briefing but do not have a State Department building pass must enter through the 23rd Street entrance of the State Department building by 10:00 a.m.

Attendees must present one of the following press credentials: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
