Region V Columbus Area Office Hosts Meeting to Promote OSHA VPP and Networking Opportunities, and Share Information and Best Practices |
|
|
Background:
On January 30, 2008, OSHA’s Region V Columbus Area Office held an OSHA Voluntary
Protection Programs (VPP) Company Meeting with their VPP member sites and
potential VPP sites. The Columbus Area Office invited all of their current VPP
participants within their jurisdiction, as well as any company over the past
year that had contacted the Area Office because they were interested in pursuing
VPP. Over 60 people attended the half-day meeting, including: twelve current VPP
companies, eleven companies interested in the program, representatives from the
Columbus Area office and a representative from the Region V Voluntary Protection
Programs Participants’ Association (VPPPA) Board. The meeting was held at the
Coca-Cola North America Columbus Syrup Plant, a recent VPP Star member.
Success Impact:
Feedback from the Meeting – Attendee’s Testimonials
The purpose of the meeting was to offer a forum for current VPP companies and
those actively working to achieve VPP status to meet the Region’s Area Office
Director, share information and best practices, and discuss VPP issues. The
meeting also covered issues such as OSHA enforcement, VPP recertification,
OSHA’s Special Government Employees (SGE) Program, and VPP annual reports. Due
to the overwhelming positive feedback from the meeting attendees, the Columbus
Area Office plans to make this meeting an annual event. Examples of some of the
meeting attendees’ testimonials include the following:
"The best practice session was very beneficial in helping
me see how these practices may be incorporated into my work environment."
"As we are not yet a VPP company, the background on VPP was beneficial in
helping me understand what is involved with the certification."
"It was good to be able to meet representatives from other facilities and
speak with OSHA representatives."
"Nice to hear success stories."
"The Question and Answer session was very beneficial as it provided real
examples and ideas which were great."
"It would be very helpful to have this meeting at least twice a year offering
education on VPP, safety and VPPPA."
"This was a great opportunity to network and find a VPP mentor."
