Per Federal law [Defense of Marriage Act], same sex marriages or civil unions are not recognized by the FEGLI Program. However, you can designate anyone to be the beneficiary of your life insurance by completing SF 2823 “Designation of Beneficiary”. Please refer to the FEGLI Handbook more information.
FSAFEDS follows the Defense of Marriage Act PL 104-109. Expenses incurred by your same sex partner are not eligible expenses under FSAFEDS.
