National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection To Hold Public Meetings

WASHINGTON, May 11, 2006 - The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) today
announced that the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) will hold public
meetings on May 23-24, 2006, to discuss issues related to the further development of a more robust
risk-based inspection system.
All committee meetings will be held in the conference room at the south end of the USDA South Building
cafeteria, 1400 Independence Ave, S.W., Washington, D.C. The full committee will meet from 8:30 a.m.
to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, and Wednesday, May 24. Subcommittees will hold open meetings from
3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23. The following issues will be discussed:
- Measuring Establishment Risk Control for Risk-based Inspection; and
- Strategic Implementation Plan for Enhancing Outreach to Small and Very Small Plants

The NACMPI was established in 1971 to provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture
regarding meat and poultry inspection programs. The committee, which generally meets twice a year, addresses
food safety and policy issues affecting USDA.
