Summit on International Development: Sustaining the New Era
(Oct. 21): "This is truly a special and unique occasion: An opportunity for us to gather together -- both representatives of government and representatives of NGOs and members of civil society -- to support people around the world who are striving to lift themselves out of poverty, to forge lives of dignity for themselves and their families, and to build a world that is not only more stable, but more just. Not a perfect world, but a better world." Full Text
Progress in the Middle East
(Oct. 16): "You have a situation in which throughout the Middle East, people talk about popular rule, women can vote in Kuwait, elections have been held in a number of places, and in the Palestinian-Israeli situation, the two-state solution is now taken for granted that this the only real possibility. And so yes, it’s still a difficult region, but I think a lot has been achieved over the last several years." Full Text
Investing in the Future of the Middle East
(Oct. 14): "[Palestinian] Prime Minister Fayyad has worked hard to create an environment in which the private sector can be an engine for economic growth....[But this progress] is only going to ultimately succeed if we can also create an economically viable Palestinian society, and eventually a Palestinian state.
