AURORA, Ill. -- A safety and health conference for small businesses will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill. "This conference is a great opportunity to help small businesses prevent job injuries and protect their workers," said Michael G. Connors, OSHA regional administrator in Chicago. The forum is co-sponsored by the North Aurora area office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); Rock Valley College; the Onsite Consultation Program of the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity; the American Society of Safety Engineers, Stateline Chapter; Rock Valley Small Business Development Center; and the National Education Safety Center, Northern Illinois University. Classes covering safety issues for transportation, construction, machine safeguarding, small business, and health and wellness will be offered. An eight-hour recertification session on hazardous waste operations and emergency response will also be offered. The program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rock Valley College, Stenstrom Center, 4151 Samuelson Road, Rockford. The fee for the conference is $75, which includes handouts, exhibits, wellness checkup, lunch and refreshments. The fee for the hazardous waste operations and emergency response recertification session is $100. Advance registration is required. For conference information, call (815) 229-6677 or (815) 226-6354.
