Title: ¤Abbreviated Portacount Quantitative Fit-Testing Protocol
|
Abstract: Appendix A of OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) specifies the procedure for adding new test protocols to this standard. OSHA is proposing to include two additional protocols for the PortaCount® quantitative fit testing methodology in its Respiratory Protection Standard; the proposed protocols would apply to employers in general industry, shipyard employment, and the construction industry. The revised PortaCount® quantitative fit testing protocols are referred to as the Revised PortaCount® Quantitative Fit Test Protocol 1 and Protocol 2. The only difference between the proposed revised PortaCount® Protocol 1 and the approved PortaCount® protocol is that the revised Protocol 1 requires that the seven test exercises be performed for 30 seconds instead of the 60 seconds per test currently required. The revised Protocol 2 would reduce exercise time to 40 seconds instead of the currently required 60 seconds, eliminate two of the eight fit testing exercises, and would raise the pass/fail criterion from 100 to 200 for half-masks and 500 to 1,000 for full facepieces.
