U.S. Labor Department’s Wage and Hour District Office Returns to New Orleans

Office Relocates to F. Edward Hebert Building

NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Department of Labor announced today that the Wage and Hour Division's New Orleans district office has returned to the city. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Wage and Hour staff conducted investigations and compliance assistance activities from a temporary office in Metairie, La.

"The relocation in the city of New Orleans will greatly improve our access to employers and employees who are working to clean-up and rebuild the city and region," said Alfred B. Robinson Jr., acting administrator of the Wage and Hour Division.

"Over the last year, our New Orleans staff members have demonstrated their commitment to protecting workers while working out of temporary space. The move will enhance the Wage and Hour Division's visibility and efforts as reconstruction of the city and Gulf Coast region continues over the next several years," Robinson said.

The department continues to deploy additional resources and staff to the region to provide added enforcement support. Wage and Hour Division offices have investigated approximately 300 employers and recovered nearly $1.4 million in back wages for work performed in the Gulf Coast region.
