Notes: OSHA does not have a PEL for this chemical. EPA's reference concentration for chronic inhalation exposure (RfC) is 2 mg/m3. A NOAEL of at least 150 ppm for eye irritation has been suggested. It is excreted in the urine as both free and conjugated 1-methoxy-2-propanol, and as the O-demethylated metabolite, 1,2-propanediol. Although it is absorbed through the skin, in vitro studies with human skin indicate that absorption occurs at a much slower rate than absorption of the ethylene glycol derivatives, 2-ethoxyethanol and especially 2-butoxyethanol.
