Colombia: President Uribe's Efforts to Negotiate a Hostage Release with the FARC

Question:   What is the United States’ reaction to president Uribe’s offer to pull troops from a mountain village in Valle del Cauca province in a bid to free hostages held by guerilla forces?

Answer:   We refer you to the Colombian government regarding President Uribe’s offer. The goal of the United States is the safe release of the hostages. As always, we call on the FARC for the hostages’ immediate and safe return. The FARC terrorists have put the hostages at risk and we hold them fully accountable for their health and safety.
