| Notice to the Press Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC December 1, 2005 Change in State Department Press Building Pass RequirementsThe Department of State issues press building passes to facilitate journalists’ access to the building. To meet security requirements during the transition to the SMART card ID system, media representatives have been required to carry and wear two badges for building access – a white and green ‘Swipe’ badge and the yellow SMART badge. The transition to the SMART pass card readers is now complete in the designated press areas. Effective immediately, members of the media will be required to present and wear only their yellow SMART badges, upon entering the building. The Swipe badge is now invalid. The Office of Press Relations, which manages these building passes, is now collecting the press Swipe badges, in order to comply with security regulations concerning their disposal.
