| Notice to the Press Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC November 8, 2005 Secretary Rice to Address 20th Annual Meeting of the Overseas Security Advisory CouncilSecretary of State Condoleezza Rice will address the 20th annual meeting of the Overseas Security Advisory Council on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, in the Dean Acheson Auditorium of the Harry S Truman Building, U.S. Department of State. Secretary Rice will address more than 1,000 members of OSAC between 11:00-11:30 a.m. A photo opportunity will follow with the Secretary and Council officers in the Dean Acheson Auditorium. The 20th anniversary meeting of OSAC will run from November 8-10, 2005, at the Department of State, and will bring together representatives from the American business sector operating overseas and U.S. Government agencies. Protecting soft targets and the importance of the OSAC organization will be the focus of speakers on the morning of November 9, the only session of the 3-day conference open to the media. Other speakers will include Chairman of Citigroup Sandy Weill and Assistant Secretary for Diplomatic Security Richard J. Griffin. Established by then-Secretary George P. Shultz in 1985, the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) is a public/private partnership to foster cooperation and the exchange of security information between the U.S. Government and the U.S. private sector operating overseas. Currently, more than 3,100 constituent organizations participate in OSAC including businesses, religious groups, universities and colleges, and other non-governmental organizations. The Council and the private sector share information about crime; terrorism; and other political, economic, and social factors that affect the international security environment for businesses operating outside the United States.
