Notice to the Press Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC February 12, 2007 The United States Holds First Science and Technology Joint Committee Meeting with the Islamic Republic of PakistanThe first meeting of the U.S.-Pakistan Science and Technology Joint Committee Meeting will take place February 13-14 at the headquarters of the National Science Foundation. Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Mahmud ali Durani will welcome the two delegations led by the Science and Technology Joint Committee co-chairs, U.S. National Science Foundation Director Dr. Arden Bement and Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman. The development of the high-level Science and Technology Joint Committee was a result of President Bush's meeting with President Musharraf in Pakistan in March 2006. The Joint Committee was created under the auspices of the Agreement on Science and Technology Cooperation signed by Pakistan and the United States in June 2003.
