Summary of U.S. Assistance - London Conference on Afghanistan

U.S. pledges made at previous donor conferences provide a clear demonstration of the long-term U.S. commitment to Afghanistan 's future. Our consistent record of meeting and exceeding our pledges for the country's reconstruction is unparalleled. At Tokyo in 2002, we pledged $296 million and met that pledge within months, going on to provide well over three times the amount. In Dubai in 2003 we pledged $1.2 billion, at the 2004 Berlin conference we committed an additional $1 billion, and by the end of the year had met and exceeded this total by over $100 million. In London , the United States will continue to stand by the people of Afghanistan as they build a democratic, secure and prosperous country.

• Exceeding previous pledges, the United States has appropriated an additional $5.9 billion since the March 2004 Berlin conference.
  
• Total U.S. assistance to Afghanistan , FY 2001 – FY 2006, is over $10.3 billion.
  
• In addition, Secretary Condoleezza Rice announced in the January 2006 London Conference on Afghanistan that the US will also seek $1.1 billion in its 2007 budget request, which the Administration will submit to Congress in early February 2006.
