Media Note Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC May 3, 2007 Global Initiative To Combat Nuclear Terrorism--Japan Hosts Counterterrorism SeminarAs Co-Chairs of the Global Initiative, the U.S. and Russia are pleased to note that Japan has recently hosted an Experts Seminar on the Promotion of Accession to the International Counterterrorism Conventions and Protocols. A total of fifteen nations, including three current partner nations participated in the Seminar, which focused on promoting and assisting participants' efforts to sign, ratify, and implement counterterrorism conventions and protocols. The Government of Japan has also recently hosted two other events which support the implementation of the Global Initiative Statement of Principles; a Seminar on Strengthening Nuclear Security in Asian Countries; and Asian Senior-level Talks on Non-Proliferation (ASTOP). |
